The hotel is situated in a favourable position, one could say slap bang right in the middle of things. It is no problem getting to the HELP by walking there, the same applies for the BALCONY and MAPS, although I preferred to catch a taxi for a few Real (three to five minutes by taxi).

The price for a double lies at around about 138 Reais, it is also possible to book a single room for about 124 Reais. If one decides that one wants to sleep alone then this is more recommendable because one saves the cost of paying for the lady, otherwise this will be put on the bill discretely. Breakfast was ample. The area is very loud, which didn’t disturb me personally. The rooms out to the back of the hotel are a lot more peaceful; the furniture serves its purpose and is not worn out. The size of the TV is just about large enough, the mini bar is ok and the bathroom good, at least one is able to have a proper shower, good water pressure. Be careful with the beds: some sag quite a bit, so, take a look at the room and try the bed out, this is compulsory. One does however have to get used to the colours of the carpets und wallpapering etc, they have, in all aspects, a lot of differing rooms.

First of all (before setting off for Fortaleza) I just had a small room and also problems with the mattress. I tend to get backache quite quickly. Ok, three days were just about acceptable otherwise I would have had to move to another room. This was on the fifth floor out to the front, noisy as well of course. The road is parallel to the beach with the amount of traffic one would expect.

On the way back from Fortaleza I had a room that was a lot better for me, it was larger and situated on the eleventh floor (lift only travels to the tenth floor). This one was also out to the front but due to being higher up it was a lot quieter. Apart from that there was also a small ledge in front of the window. I find things like that quite comforting, just in case of fire for example. Due to camera problems I have not got the pics I would have liked, so here are a few taken during certain ‘activities’.

Pics: Night-time view from the hotel.

So, I found everything about this room great, large, bright, quite peaceful (the rooms out back only have single beds), large bed in which I was actually able to get to sleep.

The hotel is safe (by the way there is a safe in the wardrobe): The lads downstairs make sure that nobody unauthorised gets in. It is compulsory that chicks leave their ID cards down at the reception, which makes a lot of sense because when the chicks leave, the reception phones to ask whether everything is ok. I find that great; especially in Rio because it gives travellers a sense of security. Once in the past, M’s telephone had not been hung up correctly, the reception was not able to contact him so he even went up to the room and knocked on the door to make sure that everything was ok…. Super. One isn’t robbed quite as easily because of this system, not to mention knockout drops.

The hotel has no pool. Air conditioning is ok, internet, banks, shopping possibilities close by. Town hotel without a fancy twist.

Conclusion: I would come back here any time. All in all, the service is more than satisfactory; the staff at the reception are extremely friendly and always ready to help. Exchanged US Dollars and Euros there quite a few times, the rate of exchange is ok. The price, the value for money for the Copa is more than good. The location is ok, safety also. The hotel is made just for people like us, give the lads there a few Dollars tip, they have earned it.
