Rex Hotel, Vung Tau, Vietnam 01 Le Quy Don St., Vung Tau City Visited by Major Grubert The Rex Hotel has various room categories, starts off at about 20 or 25 Dollars for a simple room (everything including breakfast), right up to a Suite for about 70 US Dollars. After taking a look at a few rooms (there were enough free), I thought, ‘it’s my one and only treat’, and took the large room for a few days. I was able to knock the price down to 60 bucks. I had left open the date I was going to leave. The suite was very spacious, two rooms, two large TV’s, two air conditionings, two bathrooms, a shower, a bath, a room safe with combination lock and internet (free of charge) in the room (they brought me a cable). The room had a huge bed and the hotel had a lovely pool (but can only be used for a slight surcharge because the pool really belongs to the neighbouring hotel, which shares the same grounds) with an adjacent bar. The restaurant is very good, my favourite Vietnamese sweet and sour soup (with fish), which I had actually got to know in Phnom Penh was simply delicious. They even have a special menu for westerners, not only good, but also reasonably priced. The breakfast buffet is also more than acceptable, even by western standards. The personnel are extremely friendly, the reception endeavours to answer ones questions, organise taxis for ones longer excursions, or to change flight bookings etc. The hotels laundry service is fast, cheap and reliable. There is a small bar downstairs, the keeper is nice and when asked, provides the right tips straight away (nightlife, girls etc). Apart from this the hotel is situated nicely: On the one hand one has a nice view of the bay, on the other one is slap bang in the middle of things such as bars etc. A few views of and from the hotel – sorry but I have managed to mess a few of those from the room up... |
